I stayed in this hotel on the 19th June 2019, it was everything you could wish for in an overnight stay with bed and breakfast. Clean, accommodating, great reception and staff. The room was comfortable and spacious, and the hotel was clean and well payed out. The breakfast was full and hearty, I would definitely stay at this hotel again. Don't be fooled by the run down nature of the area, this hotel was great value and a pleasure to start all Bob jeffery
I've been working in central Birmingham for almost a year now and have stayed a collective 180 nights since last July. I've stayed at the Holiday Inn at Birmingham Airport on five occasions in that time and it consistently rates as my least favourite hotel. In its favour: 1. A free shuttle bus from Birmingham International Station to the hotel. Although it must be said there is sometimes a scrum to get on board at 8am back to the station and the bus leaves the station on the quarter hour, which never ever coincides with fast trains out of Birmingham New Street to London, Reading or Southampton. 2.The hotel is always under £100 a night when booked in advance, even when other chains are bumping up prices because of events in the city. 3. The rooms are recently decorated. Against: 1. There is always a queue to check-out in the morning. 2. Check-out is painfully slow and I have missed the shuttle bus on two occasions because of the delays. 3. The staff are unprofessional and in my experience there are plenty walking past but very few doing. 4. The room service food quality and value for money is poor. 5. The rooms are numbered to make it seem that they aren't on the ground floor. 6. Car parking is expensive. 7. Breakfast is also expensive. 8. As are bar prices. 9. Frequent IHG travellers are not rewarded. 10. The showers are generally bath based and the water temperature is not consistent. 11. No face flannels and generally inadequate amounts of towels are provided in what are sold as double rooms. I cannot recommend this hotel. I stay there as a very last resort and would suggest others do likewise.
The room was ok, nothing to write home about. Good shower pressure plus was nice and hot - always good. Small gym but was filled with the necessary equipment for a 1 night stay. Pool swimming area was halved due to the children's swimming lessons but wasn't too busy when I got in there. Steam room wasn't the best but it was nice to have the facilities of the gym, pool, jacuzzi and steam room on offer - so - good. Breakfast was the highlight. The buffet breakfast had a good selection, but for me - there is no better way to start the day than pancakes, bacon and maple syrup. I ordered them at the counter - not with too high hopes to be honest - but when they came out of the kitchen - YES! They looked amazing, the bacon - crispy, as described, and the pancakes looking pretty fresh, with a nice drizzle of maple syrup. I'd go as far to say I'm 85% sure that these were actually cooked fresh to order. Very well done! It did make the start of the day so much better. So, thanks! Good selection of fresh fruit on offer as well. 3 for the room - the breakfast and facilities brings it up to 4! If I stay here again, get a taxi or Uber for dinner, and look forward to the breakfast!
While this hotel is clean and beds comfortable, our overall experience was tainted by the 'zero hospitality' policy this hotel appears to adopt. Every request was greated with a grunt, and as guests we felt like we were a nuisance. We had a group booking, and the food that we were served up was nothing more than slop, and we were charged a fortune for it (£15 for childrens portions of inedible spaghetti bolognaise). The chicken/potatoes/veg meal we received on the second night was clearly cooked the day before and re-heated and floating in gravy to give some taste. The chicken had the same texture as Fisher Price plastic play food. When we requested tea following our (extortionately priced) meals, we were told to go to the bar and order it (at £3.50 a pop). The children in our group could not eat the food, and this resulted in us buying chips at the bar, once again for £3.50 a pop. At breakfast, the buffet area repeatedly ran out of breakfast bowls, cutlery and glasses. Once again, when we asked for these items to be restocked we were treated like we were an inconvenience and re-stocking took a looooonng time. The bar was dreadfully stocked with very little that was on the menu actually available. Don't look for Guinness, Magners, sparkling water or a decent slice of lemon!! Overall, our experience was quite shocking and I would strongly recommend that you avoid this hotel at all costs.
We stayed here for one night before a flight to Crete. We had a bit of a wait for the shuttle bus, which was a nuisance because it was late and we were tired after a long journey from Devon. However, our room was clean and comfortable. The bed and pillows were very good quality and we had a great night’s sleep. The room was slightly tired and in need of a bit of refurbishment, but this didn’t matter for one night and a bill of £62.98! The choice at breakfast was wide, and the staff very attentive. A little girl was made a fuss of and a gentleman who was slightly disabled was given table service instead of having to help himself from the buffet. There are plenty of comfortable places to sit in the reception area and all of the staff had time to have a quick chat and give you a smile. Excellent value for money, and equally as good as far more expensive hotels at which we have stayed
