The Birmingham Hotel
We arrived to stay 1 night as we were meeting friends in Birmingham and this was the only place that had any rooms left, so unusual for me, but I did not check the reviews. On arrival when we entered the hotel (through a back door to reception) which was gruesome we decided that as we were only staying one night we would have to put up and shut up hoping that the room was ok. We were asked to pay before we went to the room. As per all the pictures on here, they are a true reflection on what the rooms and hotel were REALLY like. The bed covers/sheets looked ok, so we dumped our baggage and set out. When we arrived back at the hotel around 12.30, we could not get into our room as the key would not work. We went to reception and they reset the key, but it still did not work. We then for a 3rd time went back to reception and asked him to come upstairs and help us enter our room, to which he replied "what have you done to it, try again and if it doesn't work I will come up, just shout me from the staircase". The key still did not work, so we "shouted" him and he came up. NO he could not get us into the room and said that he would call the Manager. We were then told the manager would not come out and we would have to wait till morning, but we could have another room at "no extra charge"! By this point I was fuming and told them to tell the Manager to get his self in and get us in our room as my medication was in there, but the Manager refused to come out. Apparently only he had THE MACHINE that could open the door. We slept in our clothes all night and then went to reception the next morning and the Manager very calmly said "ok, lets get you into your room". (now we were really biting our tongue). On walking back up the stairs my friend tripped as the carpet thingy came away from the stairs and the Manager said "be careful, just kick it back on" !... We eventually had our door open and then informed the Manager that we wanted a full refund, but which he said " you can have £15 pounds back". We refused this and ended up getting £30 and told the Manager we were taking this further. On getting into our room we were ready for a nice Sh@@ shower @@@, but on entering the bathroom, we very quickly changed our minds. It was a hovel, dirty, smelly. We just ended up getting our things and leaving. There was NO apology or anything from the Manager at all. He wasn't bothered. Stay here at your peril. It is the WORST hotel I have ever stayed in !!
Nice and clean hotel. Beds were clean and comfy. Staff was friendly. Rooms were nice and modern. Good links to public transport and close to City centre. Would stay here again and Affordable priced...
This was easily the worst hotel we've ever stayed in, and we've stayed in a hotel that still had hair on the shower wall. The second we saw our room we knew it wouldn't be good, but then we discovered that the toilet wouldn't even flush. (When I looked in the tank to see if I could fix the problem, I saw a crumpled beer can inside. Go figure.) Despite telling me that the hotel was fully booked, the reception employee somehow managed to find another room for us when I insisted. Still, the only good thing about the new room was the clean linen on the terrible, hard beds. Luckily we had booked only one night in this tragedy of a hotel despite planning to be in Birmingham for a couple of days. Stains on the wall. Cracked porcelain everywhere. Unpatched holes in the wall. Nonfunctioning outlets ... It's a shame. With the location, it has the makings and the ability to be a lovely, retro hotel, and it could've been a great competitor to the fancier hotel along the same plaza. But it's clear everywhere you look that the owners don't care about the property, which then makes employees and customers not care, either. Unless your only other option is to sleep outside, find another place.
Utter PIECE OF CRAP. HORRIBLE looking outside as well as inside. DO NOT GET FOOLED BY FAKE PICTURES. this place needs reporting ASAP. Booked this hotel for ONE night for £50 for two people. Room was sooo far, NO LIFTS, had to climb onto second floor with luggage, Long hallways, Room was way too far down hallway. Looked like a haunted filthy smelly building that had not been cleaned for years. Outside there is broken furniture everywhere, alongside a yellow skip yard. Filth all over the carpets, stains, marks. Bathroom DISGUSTING. toilet FLUSH did not work. Checked in quite late at night, was in a rush to go back out (GLAD) DID not get a chance to tell manager the flush was not working as he did say we are here 24 7, so thought we would tell him when we are back. When told manager at front desk, no remorse what so ever, no sympathy, did not know how to empathise. Instead blamed US for not telling him earlier and also said 'f*cksake'. Manager also said 'why would you go out and not tell us knowing you were not going to stay out all night and were gona come back to stay here in the first place Was shocked by his response, felt be-little and disgusted. I'm sorry, but who ARE YOU to tell us what we can and can't do and how it should be done. Also advised him i really need to go to the bathroom, so can something be done..had not slept all night and this was 5am in morning. No sympathy, NOTHING. Instead, we felt disgusted in the way we had been spoken to, so decided to check out straight away at 5.30am Did not care about the money AT ALL but defos NOT WORTH THIS GARBAGE FILTHY HORRENDOUS PLACE. Did not call us back at all, instead just pulled a face. We left immediately, and WOULD NEVER EVER EVER go back even if it was the last place on earth to go. Would rather sleep on streets outside ☺
Only nice thing is clean linen . Huge car park It's overpriced dated dirty halfway through refurbishment. Shower didn't work at all. Mould in bathroom. Door frame split from top to bottom . Staff very nice. But unable to print a vat receipt. No food on site . Just nearby chippy.
