Macdonald Burlington Hotel
Situated in the heart of Birmingham's impressive newly pedestrianised shopping area, the Macdonald Burlington Hotel Birmingham is placed close to the town hall and central plaza and is adjacent to the New Street station.
This property houses individually designed guestrooms that are comfortable and come with a host of contemporary amenities. To cater to the needs of the guests, the hotel also offers a warm and caring full time room service with a personalised attention.
The Berlioz restaurant is the hotel's own exclusive a la carte establishment, whilst breakfast is catered for in a seperate dining area. The Bacchus bar is extremely popular and inviting, designed to reflect the garden of Eden with beautiful floral displays and is an ideal place to relax with a fine drink after as tiring day.
Catering to the needs of its business travellers, the hotel also provides a conference room that is well appointed with all the necessary technical equipments and is an ideal place for your meetings and seminars. Health conscious guests can avail the facilities of the well appointed gymnasium available just 200 yards from the property.
The room was fine, spacious and clean. My issue is more with the hotel service. It didn’t start off well when I tried to ring both reception and room service but it just rang and rang. So, I popped down to the restaurant to order. The man who took my order was immediately rude, condescending and abrupt. I explained I’d tried to ring and he told me well, there’s nothing wrong with my phone. Other than the fact that no one picked it up! Half the items I wanted to order were not available. He told me the wait was max 30 mins. I waited over 30 mins for a cold serving of “homemade fish fingers” and “mac’n’cheese”. The mac’n’cheese was cold penne with a rancid, definitely not fresh packet style cheese sauce. The fish fingers were not there, a battered piece of fish, whereby the batter was soggy and what I suspected were previously fried, reheated oven chips. Not hand cut chips! To make matters worse there was a suspicious wiry fibre in the greens. I was starving but couldn’t face this. The ice cream arrived already melted, I’d assume if you were serving, you’d take that out last but it was melted by the time it got to my room. The breakfast servers were much nicer but the fresh smashed avocado was previously prepared guacamole! The poached egg was overdone and hard. And the filter coffee (I’d have thought a 4* could employ a barista) was cheap and bitter. I wouldn’t stay again.
Wonderful hotel, ideally located near the new street Birmingham train station.Rooms are modern whilst the hotel portrays a classical theme. Rooms are comfortable and spacious. Staff are friendly and willing to assist when asked to.Food was decent
I stayed for one night for a conference in Birmingham. My room was very nice with everything I needed, the staff were helpful and the location was great. Nothing I could fault. Would stay here again if I find myself back in Birmingham.
The worst afternoon tea I have ever had. Processed cheese and ham sandwiches and bought in tasteless cakes and scones and added to that no box or bag to take away anything not eaten. Most definitely would not recommend.
All the staff that we met were very friendly and helpful, especially Rita from reception and Daniel in the restaurant. Also the friendly housekeeper. We had a wonderful dinner on a week night, not too busy so perfect for us. Try the artisan malted bread - very tasty! Had a nice twin room (419) Took my 16 year old son shopping in Birmingham- perfect location; right in the centre. Close the the New Street railway station. The only negative points would be that the dining room is in need of redecorating and the teapots at breakfast were in need of a clean. Other than these minor negatives we had a wonderful stay at this hotel. We always try to stay in Macdonald hotels as the standard is always good and we find the staff conscientious.
