Hotel at Conference Aston
Good clean room. Good location. We used the car park which though not close to the hotel was really good. We did not eat at night in the hotel so cannot comment. Breakfast was good, though it would have been nice for the staff to point out where the tea and coffee machines were as they are not visible from the breakfast room. We sat thinking someone would come and ask if we wanted tea or coffee. It was not until I saw someone go into another section of the restaurant and come back with a drink did we realise.
We stayed here for a shopping trip in Birmingham. The hotel is very clean and modern with lovely rooms. The bed was comfortable, bathroom immaculate and the room was very well lit which is somewhat unusual, most hotels seem to favour very dim lighting. We were able to check in early as our room was ready, the lady on reception was very helpful. We ventured out into Birmingham for our shopping trip and decided to return to the hotel for dinner in the restaurant rather than stay out in the city. We got to the restaurant door only to be told that it was closed but we could order 'bar food' in the bar. We decided to do just that because after being out all day, didn't fancy trekking into the centre again. Whilst the bar food was tasty and well presented, it really wasn't what we had hoped for our evening meal. The bar food was mainly just hot sandwiches with chips, we were hoping for a proper meal. Had we been informed at booking, or even at check in, that the restaurant wouldn't be open then we could have stayed out and visited a restaurant in the city. Unfortunately, this has affected the score I have given which would have been higher had they considered communicating that their restaurant, advertised as being 'open every evening from 6.30pm' was in fact closed.
I stayed here on business and was impressed with the room, bathroom and restaurant. The room was spacious and bathroom very airy and clean. Breakfast offered a wide selection of hot and cold choices. Would recommend.
We went by train to Birmingham and generally speaking the location from the station to the hotel was good. The reception staff were lovely, in fact all the staff were lovely. The rooms were clean and the price we paid was reasonable including breakfast. The breakfast was quite good, buffet style, apart from the scrambled eggs which left an after-coating in your mouth and didn't seem to resemble any form of scrambled egg I had ever eaten so concluded they could be powdered egg? The mattress and pillows were so hard and uncomfortable that when I was awoken after a few hours sleep ( more of that) my back went into a spasm. Unfortunately unbeknownst to us we chose and extremely busy weekend and were woken up in the very early hours of the morning by the assembly of scaffolding and sound systems right outside our window in readiness for a fun run? We had the window open as we were so hot in the rooms although they only open a small amount, closing the window didn't make any difference to the noise. In all we I didn't really sleep which had some impact on the rest of the day. I appreciate that we went at a busy time and I do feel it was a very good price, but definitely need to look at replacing their mattresses and adopting a policy of regularly turning them, pillows also need replacing in my opinion.
Not cheap, but quiet & very well situated for central Birmingham. Within easy walking distance of Bullring, located on university campus with shops & cafes just outside. Room small but comfortable, hotel layout gives impression that rooms originally intended as dorms. Food ok & well priced. Reception staff excellent in dealing with queries. Slightly wary of using their carpark though, as although undercover it is extremely open with easy access from the street and used as a walkway from the university.
