Castle Bromwich Hall Hotel
Stayed here mid June 2019 while attending an event at the NEC, the building is very picturesque but that's where the positives end. The room I stayed was dated, missing lightbulbs in the ceiling, bath stopper didn't work, very very noisy during the night and uncomfortable bed. A £20 security deposit was taken at check-in, which after two weeks is yet to be refunded. Upon calling the hotel to ask when I should expect the money returned I have been advised to contact my bank?! Breakfast also only starts at 7:30 at the weekend, which may not be a problem to some people but was for me as I paid for a room with breakfast but since I had to leave the hotel by 7:30am could not try it. Customer service has definite room for improvement, would not stay again.
My friend ad I booked this hotel recently for the weekend while attending an event at the NEC. We picked this hotel because it was picturesque and looked as if it had that touch of luxury, we were aware of some negative reviews but thought we would chance it. Unfortunately we should have taken the reviews into account and we were utterly disappointed. The hotel itself is full of potential and walking up to the front door we were very happy as it is set in a beautiful location. Unfortunately that's the only positive out of our stay. We turned up and had booked a superior room (£200!), however when we arrived in the room it was totally disappointing! It was the smallest room I had ever seen in a hotel, with holes in the walls, curtains hanging off the rail, some sort of liquid down the walls and the plugs didn't work; with the price, I expected so much more. The website states: "Our spectacular Superior Double Rooms are situated in the main house building, with original features such as fireplaces, original walls and period appropriate décor. One bathroom is accessible with a walk-in wet room" None of these features were in the room we were given. We spoke to staff about moving rooms but they are unprepared to move us to another room as they said they were fully booked. Because of this, we asked for a refund and stayed elsewhere. We ended up staying in a luxury superior room of a 4* hotel in Birmingham for the same price which was gorgeous. There was no apology, no manners, the staff were unsympathetic and were not wanting to meet in the middle with regards to changing rooms. We understood they were fully booked, but as we had booked the hotel months beforehand we assumed they had made a mistake with rooms and had over-booked. Such a shame as the outside is so pretty. For the price, you can stay in many other luxury hotels which are close by for not much more or even less.
Stayed here for 4 nights on a recent business trip to Birmingham and I have to say, it was good value for money. As you drive up to the hotel it has the feel of an old stately home with the large stone drive and old looking building. The hotel is a little on the old side but the rooms are relatively modern with large, clean bathrooms and the usual amenities of tea and coffee. Breakfast is a self service continental with hot food on order and for dinner you have the option of eating in the bar/outside or in the dining room. The Sunday dinner was enjoyable along with the bar food as we ate in the hotel every night. All in all, a good stay and would use it again if in the area for business in the future.
Its old. Maybe a little tired in places but that doesn't detract from the fact that it is a lovely piece of history. Take a walk through the garden. Standard room very adequate and comfortable. Reception friendly. Food at the bar was excellent value. Breakfast was very nice.
We had the Afternoon tea today and it was lovely. The cakes were delicious. Not busy when we went at 12.00 and staff were very attentive and friendly. Definitely go again and walk around the grounds as well.
