I only ate in here because I was on a business trip, our group were all hungry, and it was convenient. The swirly 70’s decor and complete absence of other diners should have given us a clue though. The food was terrible..... Fawlty Towers terrible. Just one example.... my apple crumble was frozen on one side, and the ‘custard’ was partially melted ice-cream in a little jug, like they thought I wouldn’t notice it wasn’t custard. The meal was so very bad it was actually funny in retrospect. However I did resent my company having to pay for it, so I wrote to Marriott to complain. After an acknowledgement email I heard nothing further. I followed it up with another email, but had nothing back from Marriott. I have to add, in the interest of fairness, that the room and breakfast were excellent. But make sure you eat out. And if you have a complaint, don’t bother contacting them
The staff was friendly and the good was ok, although the menu is not clear! The room was filthy found nail on the rug. Got 1 tiny shower gel for 2 of us. The spa is outrageous. We didnt know that a 4* hotel can have open spa for anybody. This is unacceptable. Our problem was there where a guy who shaved in front of the Steam cabin. The other just walked in from the reception skipping the changing room and got his clothes changed beside the table. Moreover there is no option for book a massage over the weekend. Its only open from Wednesday to Saturday. What kind of policy is this?! And the bonus was the 2 hour baby swim class. We came for a weekend relax and chill.. thanks for ruining it! I’m more than disappointed! Never ever go back there! Thanks
Good location and great facilities, perfect for a meeting in the city. Close enough to stations without being too busy and has car parking, albeit not free parking. Staff were friendly but we didn’t check out any of the facilities.
One night experience. Excellent check-in (attentative and knowledgeable staff at reception providing good recommendations), good location close to the city centre, good breakfast. Nice treatment of Bonvoy members.
My daughter and I were in Birmingham for a long weekend to incorporate a concert at the NEC. The hotel was really excellent and the reception staff very helpful and polite. We were upgraded , to what we think was a family room cos we had 2 king size beds , very comfortable . The first evening after an afternoon shopping in the building decided to eat in the hotel restaurant I had a t bone porksteak . Very disappointing small piece of pork with chips and rocket leaves , very plain! My daughter had a bowl of something with plain rice . Ok in her words . And not cheap and with a service charge added which we crossed off the Bill. The hotel itself was ideally placed, we could walk to the bull ring and Birmingham new st main station with an easy train connection train connection to the NEC. We would be pleased to use this hotel again for concerts at the NEC. But not eat at the restaurant!
One night stay in the small queen room. Others do complain about size of room, but I found it to be just what I needed. Hotel needs better management as it seems they have poor eye for quality and don't know how to get this hotel back from 3.5 stars average. Second time I've stayed here and the same issues twice in a row. Positive: - Lovely staff and a nice welcome on arrival - Parking easy with plenty of spaces and easy to find on maps - Food was tasty at restaurant and came out quick - Gym and spa OK with more equipment than most hotels - Comfy bed with ideal plug socket next to bed with little shelf. Ideal! To improve: - Shower cubicle design leaks water. Where the shower door hinges to the wall - there is probably an inch gap which funnily enough is right where you shower. Water ends up streaming out of this unless you shower in some weird position. - Window latches were missing the rubber/plastic wedges on the frames. This meant that the lovely, extremely loud machinery in the back working all night was beaming through the room. Ended up scrunching up a magazine to stick under so it would seal the window! - Parking is ridiculous at £12. - Food menus are a little bit pricey. You would probably get a bit more people in the hotel if you just dropped the price so it was reasonable. My fish and chips was 17.50?
My wife and I stayed here on Friday 29th March which we booked through Holiday Extra. We stayed overnight and had 8 days parking. First of all I must say that the trainee Tammy that dealt with us on check in was first class and you would not know she was a trainee, if it did not say so on Tammy’s badge. She was very pleasant, asked how our travel to the Hilton was and also explained about the 3 course menu deal at the Hotel and also Hilton Honors membership. We had a 3 course meal at £24.50 each without any drinks. Some of the menu has a supplement price, but I had pork Bon Bon’s, then Lamb Shank and cheesecake desert. Can’t tell all the in’s and out’s because I can’t describe the way it is put on the menu. What I will say is the food was very delicious. If I have got one tiny little moan, it was the price of the drinks. £5.90 I think it was for a small bottle of Heineken. That make it nearly £12.00 a pint, but we have the choice. The room was very spacious and well decorated for a standard room. The rate we paid for the room and parking was unbelievably a brilliant rate. Free courtesy bus to and from the airport. All staff were very welcoming throughout our stay. I would have no problem in recommending this Hotel again especially if we got it at the same rate. A word of warning don’t drink too much unless you can afford it.
This is a large hotel catering to people attending events in the NEC and also providing its own conference venue. When I was there, three in-hotel conferences were taking place, one of which was specifically for military veterans, many of whom are not very agile. However, for the whole 3-day event, only one lift of three was working in each of the accommodation access areas - resulting in long queues for those who could not walk up or down stairs. The staff seemed very unconcerned about the inconvenience caused. Aside from that, my room was OK but not great, the old and narrow bath was stained, and there was only very low water pressure. Having said all that, the food was good, and all dining area staff were helpful and friendly.
Everything downstairs - staff, food, bar and spa - were excellent. Everything upstairs was a disappointment - rooms were very, very tired and in need of refurbishment, kettle dangerous, toilet didn't flush properly and lamps not working. Not what we expected for the price and from the Hilton.
I stayed here for a business conference. The room was of an ok standard however I must admit that the beds were very hard and uncomfortable. The outside of my balcony window was also covered in cigarette butts and other things that let the room down was the bathtub that had the enamel wore aware. Check in was smooth however I have had better customer service from self service checkouts than I have from the gentleman who checked me in. I did not get his name however he had longish dirty fair hair which was swept over to the side. Very unwelcoming. The good points however are the breakfast. There is a massive selection of hot and continental choices. One of the best breakfast choices I have had in my recent travels. It is also in an ideal location for the NEC which is only a 5/10 min walk. All in all this hotel was ok however I don't think I would return again.
