George & Dragon
Do not be put off by the interior/exterior decor both of which need a good makeover!!! We ate here a few months ago following a family funeral.Nice food, reasonable prices and good service. Consequently, following another family bereavement we used the venue again.A large number ate here on the evening prior to the funeral. The post funeral buffet was taken here too, whilst some guests also stayed overnight. I must say that manager Simon and his team excelled. Rooms were really nice ,staff attentive and the food was excellent. It was impressive...........and pretty good value too. Thanks to Simon for whom nothing was too much trouble. Well done.
Got a little peckish and called in at the George and Dragon in Coleshill near Birmingham for Breakfast. I ordered the “Full English” well I wasn’t disappointed. It was the full monty with all ingredients cooked perfectly and complimented with a tasty cup of tea and very reasonably priced. I will not hesitate to pop in again when I’m in the area. Spacious car parking and all served with a smile.
The staff were nice and the lady who cooked breakfast was very cheerful. Both meals were hot. The bedroom looked on the surface as if it had been newly decorated however, the wardrobe hide a very dusty mantlepiece. The chest of drawers had handles missing and the only chair, dining chair, was very dirty at the back of the seat. The duvet cover had three holes and there was no mattress or pillow protectors. The towels had no pile and no amount of fabric softener was going to make them fluffy, only fit for the rag bag and the toilet brush was in need of replacement urgently. The electric kettle, which was placed on the top of the chest of drawers had an extension lead, the kettle came on of its own accord at one point. The bar area where breakfast was served had dirty and stained seating and the chair in the main bar were we had evening meal sagged and caused them to be a little too low for the table. The general deco was grubby and needed uplifting. With some money investment and regular time given this pub being close to the NEC and airport should be a gold mine.
Overnight stay for trip to NEC. Arrived about 4.30pm was taken up to room. Room was clean and the decoration was quite nice but the furniture was slightly dated and the carpet had a discoloured patch. The bathroom was fairly big and had a nice shower cubicle but the basin did not have a plug. The room was basic it would have helped to have a couple of easy chairs and a small table as we had to sit on the beds to watch the very small TV which was very uncomfortable. There was a mirror over the mantelpiece that I couldn't see myself in and a long mirror just leaning against the wall. Also had to use the cups to have a drink of water which we had to get out of the bathroom tap. Went down to the restaurant part for dinner which was very good all home cooked and plenty of it! Had a reasonable nights sleep. Breakfast was very good plenty of it which set us up for the day. With a little more thought and attention to detail this place could be brought up to a better standard quite easily.
I've stayed here before, back in 2015 whilst attending a show at the NEC. I re-booked for this year, for a show I have been exhibiting at, at the NEC again. I booked with these guys as I knew what I'd be getting. The rooms are simple, but are warm, clean and have everything you need...for me, that means tea and coffee making facilities...a must! The food is fab, traditional pub grub...full cooked breakfast is excellent. The staff are wonderful and can't do enough for you. Have re-booked already to stay again next year. Thank you everyone at The George and Dragon for making my stay so great, it's not easy staying away for 5 nights when you've got a family at home and they made me feel really welcome again. Looking forward to my next stay with you x x
